Position Description
Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes, and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies, and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions
The GME Unit Manager is responsible for the overall management of the operations of the Graduate Medical Education department within the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in the Permian Basin School of Medicine. This role ensures the effective operation of GME programs, including managing personnel and operational processes for residents, fellows, and program leadership. The Unit Manager serves as a key point of contact between GME programs, faculty, external stakeholders, and hospital leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Management: Develops and implements goals, procedures, and protocols to ensure smooth operations of GME programs. Manages GME events, including orientations and educational activities, ensuring compliance with institutional and accrediting body requirements.
  • Personnel and Trainee Support: Oversees personnel processes related to GME trainees, including recruitment, onboarding, medical licensure, credentialing, and benefits management. Coordinates the appointment, termination, and clearance processes for all residents and fellows.
  • Residency Management System Oversight: Ensures the effective use and maintenance of the residency management system, providing ongoing support and training for program administrators
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Acts as a liaison between GME programs, hospital partners, and external agencies. Coordinates communication and collaboration with program directors, administrators, and accrediting bodies to meet institutional goals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures that all GME processes adhere to institutional policies and external regulatory requirements, including those set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and other accrediting bodies.
  • Event Planning and Budgeting: Manages logistical and financial planning for GME events such as orientations, and workshops. Prepares and monitors budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously seeks to enhance processes related to GME operations, incorporating feedback from trainees, program leadership, and hospital partners. Develops strategies for improving efficiency, communication, and service quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    o Demonstrated leadership in managing complex operational tasks and multi-disciplinary teams.
    o Strong knowledge of operational activities, and ability to apply regulatory compliance and accreditation processes. o Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    Ability to independently research issues, analyze data, and make informed recommendations.
    o Proven commitment to delivering high-quality work and exceeding expectations.

    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree plus three years of supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.
