Job Summary

This is a hybrid position with majority of the work being completed onsite. In the first 6 months of the position, it will be expected to be onsite for training each day.

Applies professional concepts to conduct analytical studies or research projects of moderate scope and complexity to address a variety of policy, research and non-profit organization infrastructure. Gathers data and information for multiple research studies evaluates alternatives and makes sound recommendations and conducts research and proposes methods to create a financially stable non-profit organization.

Involves analytical studies on a variety of policies, projects, programs and issues in support of a function, research initiative, program and / or organizational unit, or in research of new or changing systems and programs. Assists in policy and program planning, development, administration, management and implementation; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to department administrators and other stakeholders.

The incumbent will support the staff of the UCSF Pediatric Stroke Research Center and the International Pediatric Stroke Organization by assisting with medical chart abstraction and data entry for multiple research studies, administrative tasks and operations management relating to the infrastructure of research studies and IPSO as well as fundraising efforts for IPSO.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $55,700 - $90,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

This is a position within the Division of Child Neurology in the Department of Neurology at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, San Francisco.

The Division of Child Neurology has more than 30 faculty members with expertise and active research programs in neonatal neurology, stroke and cerebrovascular disease, neuro-oncology, neuromuscular disease, epilepsy, autism, neurogenetics, multiple sclerosis, and movement disorders. Child neurology is a core part of the Pediatric Brain Center at UCSF, established in 2012 to bring together all specialists involved in the care of children with nervous systems disorders, from neurological surgeons to neuropsychologists and from neuro-critical care physicians to physiatrists. We bring a multidisciplinary approach to our core missions: clinical care, teaching, and education.

One of the research centers of the division is the Pediatric Stroke Research Center, the research arm of the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Stroke & Cerebrovascular Disease Center. The UCSF Pediatric Stroke Research Center is a group of pediatric stroke neurologists and full-time support staff performing clinical research in cerebrovascular diseases, principally stroke. The Pediatric Stroke and Cerebrovascular Group's experienced research personnel include a full-time epidemiologist and biostatistician, research program managers, project managers, clinical research coordinators, and research analysts.

In addition to leading and managing clinical research studies, the Pediatric Stroke Research Center staff also is the operations headquarters of the International Pediatric Stroke Organization, IPSO. IPSO is a non-profit organization for medical professionals interested in pediatric cerebrovascular disease and stroke. IPSO supports their members in career growth by hosting scientific medical conferences and virtual webinars as well as distributing literature reviews and scientific newsletters. IPSO also supports the non-medical community by developing and distributing an online news periodical called IPSO Kid Stroke Connections

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 2+ years of related experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of administrative analysis or operations research; and/ or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Working knowledge of standard organization-specific and other computer application programs. Excellent proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Demonstrated skill in word processing to prepare correspondence and other documents with speed and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPAA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and a clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.); knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances, database building/analysis, and data management within some of the following: Access, Stata, SASS/ SPSS, and Teleform programming platforms
  • Experience working in academic medical setting and/or non-profit organizations and understanding best business practices
