Technician Position Available, Biometeorology Group - University of Minnesota

The Biometeorology group at the University of Minnesota has an opening for a research technician. The successful candidate will help maintain eddy covariance, lidar, and tall tower sampling sites across Minnesota, as part of a major project to better understand agricultural impacts on greenhouse gas emissions at regional and national scales. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to advance scientific understanding and predictability of the transport and fate of agricultural trace gases including dicamba, ammonia, nitrous oxide (its isotopologues and isotopomers), methane, and others. The successful candidate is expected to lead research efforts related to modeling atmospheric transport processes and to publish results in a timely manner.

Job Duties:
(60%) Maintain high quality environmental measurement systems including laser spectroscopy.
(20%) Perform field and lab-based measurements to establish high quality trace gas measurement standards
(20%) Archive data, perform data analyses, document experimental study notes and conduct scientific research on specific atmospheric transport topics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: BS/BA degree in Earth-Atmosphere Sciences or related field and 2 years of related experience or an MS degree in Earth-Atmosphere Sciences or related field (combination of education and/or experience must equal six years). Expertise in micrometeorological measurements, data acquisition, computer programming, and electronics will be required to support the research mission. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently in the field and laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree with a focus in atmospheric sciences, micrometeorology, or related discipline. Expertise in one or more of the following areas would be a significant asset: trace gas measurements, biogeochemical modeling, chemical transport modeling, and hands on experience with the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF or WRF-Chem). The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to independently lead research projects and publish in peer-review journals.

This position is part of the Griffis Lab in the Department of Soil, Water and Climate in CFANS on the St. Paul, MN campus of the University of Minnesota.
