About the Position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician ensures pharmacy compliance with the DEA and the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy regulations regarding handling controlled and non-controlled medications. In this position, you will work with a pharmacist, a team of nurses, providers, and pharmacy technicians to ensure that medical clinics receive medications within the Maricopa County Jails. You will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of clinic medication rooms.

We Require

  • One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician

  • A current, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician certification/license issued by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience as a licensed Pharmacy Technician in a retail, corrections, or hospital setting

Job Contributions

  • Work with nursing teams and providers to maintain and manage medication rooms within the Maricopa County Jail clinics

  • Manages Medication, scans medications into the clinic from pharmacy vendor

  • Reconciles and received medications, inventories clinic stock and monitors for outdated medications, orders stock medications as needed to maintain established clinic PAR level

  • Assists clinic nurses with patient specific medication refills, returns medications and accurately documents findings and processes

  • Manages controlled medications for all CHS clinic by ordering replacement stock to maintain clinic par level, destroys abandoned patient specific medications, audits all controlled medication sign out sheets for compliance, monitor methadone sign out sheets and shift counts to ensure clinics are within DEA guidelines

  • Works with contracted pharmacy to reduce fiscal waste of non-returnable medications, manages and records destruction of unused 340B medications

  • Manage the distribution and accountability of immunizations supplied by Public Health to ensure compliance with the Vaccines for Adults program

  • Maintains medications on provider cart by ordering replacement stock when needed and replace outdated medication

  • Assists with medication transfer between clinics when needed

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work inside a jail setting in a dangerous, time-pressured work environment with frequent public contact and exposure to contagious diseases, chemicals, fumes, high noise, dim lighting, bright lighting, and isolated work areas

  • Ability to travel between work locations in climate changes, going indoors and outdoors

  • Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, walk long distances, climb stairs, work on a computer for extended periods, and lift up to 30 pounds
