Position Summary:
The New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA) of the J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) cordially invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured Assistant/Associate Professor. We seek a dynamic and future-focused colleague with a strong research agenda in the social sciences, as applied to architecture, urban planning, and/or the built environment, to contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs.

Essential Functions:
- Develop and teach pedagogically innovative lecture and seminar courses serving its undergraduate programs in architecture, graduate programs in architecture and urban design, and Ph.D. program in urban systems.
- Be engaged in, or have interest in developing, an internationally recognized and externally-funded research program that speaks to urgent questions including but not limited to: urban spatial-political issues such as affordable housing, equitable city planning, and social and environmental justice; contemporary challenges related to zoning, land use, and demographic change; sustainable urban infrastructure (transportation, food systems, water, and wastewater); urban adaptation and resilience to climate change; implementation and problematics of artificial intelligence, "smart city" technology, or urban digitalization; spatial dimensions of urban futures responsive to gentrification and post-industrial change; architecture as the site of workplace and domestic life and labor; and space and the formation of individual and collective identities.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

Ph.D. in a social science discipline, urban studies, urban planning, or a related interdisciplinary field. Doctoral students who are on schedule to receive their degree by August 2025 are encouraged to apply.
- Affinity for design issues and design culture, and an aspiration to actively contribute to our vibrant college of architecture and design and engage a diverse community of students within and beyond the design disciplines at an urban, public polytechnic university.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience
prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the
satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and
experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Act, the annual minimum base salary for an Assistant Professor is $85,000 and for an Associate Professor is $100,000 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. While this pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other compensation, NJIT may consider offers above the stated range for exceptional candidates based on relevant experience and qualifications.
