Salary:
The previously determined range for this position was $22.31/hr to $41.29/hr*. Final rate offered will be determined by the SEIU collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

Description:

Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician, performs the technical functions directly related to surgical asepsis, instrument preparation and presentation during surgical cases. Uses judgment to independently perform various activities related to the effective preparation of instruments prior to, during and following completion of O.R. cases. The OR Technician provides care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by supporting Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice and Magnet's Five Models of Care in clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the OR Technician functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follows established operating room/procedural area policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the care, maintenance, distribution, and control of equipment and supplies, both sterile and unsterile, that are used in operating procedures.
  • Assists in surgery/procedures, which includes arranging sterile articles and instruments, dressing materials and sutures appropriate to the kind of operation/procedures, while maintaining sterility and orderliness of instrument/procedure tables.
  • Takes sponge, needle, and instrument counts during and after surgery according to hospital policy and reports discrepancies.
  • Prepares patients for surgery/procedure by cleaning and shaving the surgical site; assists with skin preparation and draping of patient.
  • Prepares medications, except narcotics, on the sterile field.
  • Assists with infusions for arterial sheath maintenance.
  • Assists with preparation of the procedure room by procuring equipment and supplies as indicated; checks equipment for proper functioning, maintains records, and provides for comfort of patient.
  • Performs patient centered activities conducive to the general comfort and safety of patient.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Associate's degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation program.

      OR

      A Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting [NBSTSA] as a surgical technologist.
    2. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation [CPR] certification.


    Preferred Qualifications
    8 HR shifts- 5 days/week Mon-Fri (flex days)/40 hours per week

    Rotating on call required for evening, night, weekend for every other week. Rotating on call for every other holiday
    Current (AHA) BLS/CPR certification required by department
