Histotechnologist Pathology - ZSFG Full Time 82282BR Job Summary The Histology Laboratory at San Francisco General Hospital's Anatomic Pathology Department is the receiving and processing point for tissue and cytology specimens taken from surgical and biopsy procedures. Histotechnologists are involved in every step of the specimen preparation and testing required for a pathologist's microscopic evaluation and diagnosis of a patient sample. The histotechnologist's technical skills include: tissue processing and embedding, preparing tissue sections for microscope slides, routine H&E staining, and performing special stains to reveal important tissue elements. At the request of a pathologist, a Histotechnologist 2 is expected to independently perform more complex tasks such as specimen grossing or diagnostic testing utilizing immunohistochemistry (IHC), in-situ hybridization (ISH) or immunofluorescence (IF) techniques. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $53.65 - $66.82 (Hourly Rate). The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UCSF. Our educational programs include a research-intensive academic residency program and fellowships in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, gynecologic pathology, neuropathology and surgical pathology.
