Summary

A Polysomnographic Technician Trainee is a Technician who is performing the job duties of a polysomnographic technician during the first 12 months in the position. The trainee performs quality, comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis, and associated interventions for treatment under the general supervision of the Clinical Team Lead or Clinical Manager or Medical Director (MD, PhD, DO) or designee.

Job Duties

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information including review of history.
  • Prepares and calibrates testing equipment.
  • Communicates the testing procedure to the patient to provide a level of understanding.
  • Performs bio-calibrations and impedance testing to ensure the integrity of the record.
  • Assists in Polysomnographic Record Scoring and Reporting per department protocols.
  • Provides sleep equipment hook up and ensures appropriate data acquisition while maintaining continuous visual and auditory monitoring of patient and clinical events on the recording.
  • Implements appropriate interventions to eliminate artifact on the record.
  • Provides treatment modalities to patients according to department protocol.
  • Documents observations and pertinent clinical information accurately and concisely into the patient's medical record.
  • Performs post-test procedures including proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must be able to provide safe, compassionate, and competent patient care.
  • Demonstrates computer skills appropriate for the position.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days
  • RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer Technologist - State of Pennsylvania within 3 Years
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical School Diploma
  • 1 year Successful completion of college level math and science coursework or
  • 1 year Relative work in the health care industry.
  • Knowledge/Experience with EPIC system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and equipment routinely used in sleep testing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to perform sleep equipment hook-up and monitoring.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
