Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, this position is responsible for teaching and training students in the operation, programming, and maintenance of CNC machinery and tools commonly used in manufacturing. Prepare students to work in advanced manufacturing environments, where they will apply CNC technologies to produce precise parts and components. This role includes designing curriculum, delivering hands-on training, and evaluating student performance, while maintaining safety protocols and ensuring compliance with operational standards.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction & Training

Deliver both theoretical and practical lessons on CNC machinery, including programming, setup, operation, and troubleshooting. Demonstrate how to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files for machining purposes. Provide training in CNC software and equipment maintenance, as well as quality control techniques. Deliver engaging and effective instruction on CNC and manual machining, CNC programming, blueprinting, Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), metrology, and inspection techniques.

Lab Supervision

Oversee students in a hands-on lab environment, guiding them through the safe use of CNC and manual lathes, milling machines, and other equipment. Maintain CNC and manual machinery and ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition. Enforce safety protocols and OSHA regulations to minimize risk and accidents.

Curriculum Development

Design and update course materials and assessments to ensure they align with industry standards and technological advancements. Ensure instructional materials meet educational goals and prepare students for certifications and workforce readiness.

Student Assessment

Evaluate and assess students' skills, providing feedback to help improve their performance and technical competencies. Administer written, oral, and hands-on tests to gauge student proficiency. Support students in achieving CNC certifications, where applicable.

Industry Engagement

Maintain industry connections to stay current with trends and technological advancements in CNC machining and advanced manufacturing. Liaise with local businesses and industries to ensure that the training aligns with current job market needs.

Miscellaneous

Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Must meet credentialing requirements set by Indian River State College
  • Minimum five (5) years working in a machine shop or manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience in CNC machining and precision fabrication,
  • Proven experience working with CNC milling machines, lathes, grinders, Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), and other precision machining, measurement, and inspection tools.
  • Practical knowledge of manual machining as well as CNC programming, setup, and operation.
  • Industry-recognized certifications in CNC programming and operation (e.g., NIMS or HAAS certification) are highly desirable
  • Experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing CNC machines.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and other safety protocols relevant to CNC machining and fabrication.
  • Ability to teach and enforce proper safety procedures for the operation of CNC machinery and equipment.
  • Excellent communication, instructional, and classroom management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, patience, and a passion for teaching and helping students succeed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Ability to engage and motivate participants from diverse backgrounds

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials, to move equipment from room to room, and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
