The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (
CEI) is
UNC Charlotte's innovation and entrepreneurship center serving the campus and Charlotte region as a center of excellence for evidence-based entrepreneurship. Supporting students, faculty, and staff in creating a culture of innovation on the campus of
UNC Charlotte,
CEI works to provide the resources and expertise for university and community-based startups as they commercialize their innovations and scale their ventures resulting in economic development. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The Program Director for campus engagement creates and supports innovation and entrepreneurial learning for undergraduate and graduate students across the
UNC Charlotte campus. The position partners with University faculty and staff across campus to provide inclusive innovation and entrepreneurship programs and learning experiences. |
Summary of Position Responsibilities |
- Direct student engagement is intended to inform, recruit, and deliver innovation and entrepreneurship experiences, programs, and learning competencies.
- Support the creation, launch, and maintenance of innovation and entrepreneurship credentials by integrating campus partners, alumni, employers, and mentors.
- Participate in the e-portfolio learning community project and coordinate with I&E programs.
- Lead innovation and entrepreneurship programs with support staff such as the 49er Foundr, and Golden Hack.
- Maintain working knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship student learning trends locally, nationally, and globally.
- Scale, plan, and execute new programs, conferences, seminars, and speakers to expose all students to I&E opportunities.
- Work with faculty across campus to develop innovation and entrepreneurship curricular and co-curricular classes and programs.
- Develop and execute a Center communications and marketing plan to generate broad community awareness, engage students in I&E activities, and build regional and national recognition for students, faculty, and the Center.
- Pursue student recognition opportunities such as startup competitions, awards, grants, etc.
- Program funding and sponsorship development.

Minimum Education/Experience |
- Bachelors degree and
- Two years of college student programming development and delivery experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
- Graduate degree in higher education, communications, or other relevant field
- Business development experience and community management
- Knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship theory and practice demonstrated by job experience and/or other experiential learning
- Specific expertise in lean startup and customer discovery concepts preferred
- Digital engagement including website development and social media campaigns
- Familiarity with and connections to Charlotte region business and startup communities is strongly preferred
- Skilled user of Microsoft Office and other digital tools
- Engaging, outgoing personality
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Sales skills including the ability to understand needs and overcome rejection
- Highly organized with demonstrated project management experience
- Ability to work effectively in an unstructured environment with emerging needs and priorities
