About The Role:

The design and construction internship at Howard Hughes is an immersive experience designed to introduce the Associate to basic principles of commercial project design and construction management. The program consists of an on-boarding structure followed by the application of learning in a supervised environment. The Associate will conduct tasks as directed by the project/construction management team to become familiar with the design and construction management process, scheduling, quality control, cost control, and customer satisfaction procedures of Howard Hughes. The Associate Program dates are Monday, June 2nd through Friday, August 1st in The Woodlands, TX.

What You Will Do:

  • Monitor design progress on pre-development projects and coordinate the steps necessary to launch construction.

  • Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, file management.

  • Coordinate and monitor all in-field construction related activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, verification of site conditions, safety, and quality control inspections.

  • Assist the project management team with progress updates and reporting.

  • Attend Owner, Architect, and Contractor meetings and represent the Owner.

  • Review payment applications from contractors and consultants and track lien waivers.

  • Aid in document control processes such as reviewing submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

  • Assist in the evaluation of both contractor and subcontractor bids including negotiating contracts and vendor agreements.

  • Conduct various preconstruction procedures by reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, preparing cost estimates, and attending internal team meetings. and client walkthroughs.

  • Assist project management team with project close out deliverables.

About You:

  • Current student pursuing a graduate degree in Real Estate from an accredited university. An undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management is strongly preferred.

  • Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or work experience is a plus.

  • Passion for real estate, design, and construction.

  • Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week for the duration of the program.

  • Expectation is to report to the central office Monday through Friday during this internship.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn project-specific software systems, including Microsoft Office 365 (ex. Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), Procore, Adobe, and/or BlueBeam.

  • Exceptional customer and client focus with ability to succeed in a team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
