HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Director of Academic Assistance is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of undergraduate

advisement services within the College of Arts & Sciences, ensuring the academic success and progress of

over 4,000 senior-level majors.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Director, Academic Assistance are the following:



  • Oversee Undergraduate Advisement Services: Manage and coordinate academic advising services to ensure students receive proper guidance on course selection, academic progress, and degree completion.
  • Supervise Staff: Lead a team of 22 staff members, providing direction, support, and performance management to maintain high-quality service delivery and effective operations within the Office of Academic Assistance.
  • Manage Records and Graduation Auditing: Oversee records management, graduation auditing, and petition processing to ensure accurate and timely handling of student records and graduation requirements.
  • Implement Retention, Progression, and Graduation Initiatives: Direct the use of institutional data resources, such as Navigate, to develop and implement strategies that enhance student retention, progression, and graduation rates.
  • Coordinate Outreach Programs and Course Permissions: Manage the development and execution of outreach programs to engage students and oversee the course permission process to facilitate proper course enrollment.
  • Serve as Liaison with University Partners: Collaborate with the University Advisement Center and other university student support units to align undergraduate advising services.
  • Participate in University Committees: Represent the office on university committees related to undergraduate student support, contributing to policy development and decision-making processes.
  • Support Curriculum Review and Updates: Provide consultation and support during curriculum review and update processes to ensure programs remain current, relevant, and aligned with academic standards.
  • Oversees Exceptions and Grievances: Make decisions or act as the primary recommender for exceptions to academic programs, policies, and rules, and oversee the resolution of student grievances.
  • Plan and Prioritize Office Functions: Develop and execute plans for the office, including organizing training, professional development, and personnel management activities to maintain a high- performing team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and six years of supervisory/management experience or a combination of education and experience.


Preferring Requirements:



  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with student information systems and data analysis tools (e.g., Banner, Navigate, Reporting Systems).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex processes, and collaborate with various stakeholders.
