Description

Performs hand and arm scrub according to Department Policy and Procedure. Dons a sterile gown and gloves. Sets up instrumentation and equipment as dictated by Department guidelines. Performs counts with the circulating nurse before, during, and after the procedure as required. Assists surgeons with gown and glove, and after skin preparation is completed, assists with the draping. Safely passes instruments, sponges, and sutures during the procedure. Maintains the sterile field and ensures that all members of the team adhere to specific techniques. Verifies and prepares medications and solutions to be administered within the sterile field, and maintains an accurate accounting of amounts used. Handles all specimens in an appropriate fashion: specimen name, body location, and proper disposition. Provides safe patient care and maintains patient dignity. Assists in application dressings and casts. Handles all instrumentation in a careful manner. Upon completion of the procedure, prepares instruments and equipment for cleaning. Assists with operating room clean-up following the Universal Precautions. Proficient in scrubbing in one or more specialty services.

On call on weekends and holidays at Ronald Reagan Main Hospital.

Salary Range: $35.71 - $47.10

Qualifications

Recent experience in scrubbing vitrectomy and cornea cases required for this role.


  1. Working knowledge of use, function, and operation of operating room equipment, instrumentation, and furniture
  2. Working knowledge of operating room sanitation
  3. Working knowledge of aseptic technique
  4. Working knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and terminology
  5. Ability to communicate with other staff to obtain and provide information
  6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers and other co-workers
  7. Ability to accept shift changes to meet the department's needs.
  8. Skill in setting priorities, recognizing emergency situations and taking appropriate action based on past experiences or according to instruction from the nurse in charge.
  9. Skill in performing independently and following through on assignment with minimal direction and supervision.
  10. Ability in performing repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence, and pace.
  11. Ability to respond to emergency calls, in case of a disaster, and to follow instructions.
  12. Ability to lift heavy objects, push or pull heavy carts, handle surgical equipment carefully and safely, and stand for long periods of time.
  13. Ability to learn new procedures and improve existing skills by participating in various types of training courses.
  14. High School Diploma required
  15. BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
  16. Eye experienced required
