ECONOMIC PREDICTIVE MODELLING INTERNSHIP

Location: Kalamazoo, MI - Remote

As intern within the Livestock Genetics and Precision Animal Health R&D team, you will be working with a team of quantitative geneticist and data scientist to develop and evaluate predictive models that can enable the establishment of optimization functions in livestock. You are passionate about generating insights from large datasets and conducting statistical analysis, building machine learning and simulation models, and evaluating economic variables and outcomes to enable decision-making processes within livestock operations.

Internship Job Duties:

• Develop familiarity with Zoetis Genetics research pipeline and datasets available and used.
• Explore datasets and variety of information available, identifying patterns and opportunities for subsequent development of optimization models in livestock.
• Develop and test various optimization models integrating data from different sources (animal performance, economic variables, environmental features).
• Create well-documented pipelines to enable deployment of outcomes in commercial environment.
• Document project outcome in a short technical report and present findings to research and development team.

Internship Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a graduate program with a preferred focus in statistics/applied statistics, machine learning, computer science, economics, animal/plant breeding, applied statistics.
• Experience handling and analyzing large databases (demographics, phenotypes, genotypes).
• Strong programming experience with ability to work using High Performance Computing environments.
• Ability to work independently and part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking, ability to learn from a different and growing industry, excellent verbal and communication skills are required.

The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position:

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $16.00 per hour

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $20.00 per hour

If the selected candidate is a student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $32.50 per hour

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $36.00 per hour

The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois (Chicago area), Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington (Seattle area):

Student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $17.00 per hour

Student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $22.00 per hour

Student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $36.40 per hour

Student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $40.30 per hour
