JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Campus Recreation is seeking an experienced and dynamic person to join our team as a Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures.

Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and well-being programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: Intramural Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing, Intramural Sports, and Outdoor Adventures. Campus Recreation is comprised of 46 full-time staff and more than 700 student staff members.

Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for Outdoor Adventures, the Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of a comprehensive Outdoor Adventure program including indoor climbing, outdoor trips and clinics, group and teambuilding programs, and an outdoor equipment rental center.

Specific position responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the proper execution of programmatic plans in accordance with Campus Recreation's mission, vision, and values.

  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees; including climbing wall route setters, head route setters, monitors, and managers.

  • Ensure proper compliance with risk management processes and protocols for outdoor adventure participants. Maintain all risk management records according to department and University policy.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive indoor and outdoor climbing program.

  • Manage the daily operations of the indoor climbing wall.

  • Assist with leading outdoor trips and training.

  • Assist with Stone Valley Recreation Area events and programming.

  • Manage payroll for Outdoor Adventures student staff.

  • Submit reservation requests for Outdoor Adventure programming.

  • Ensure all programming is conducted in accordance with the University, department, professional association, and program-specific risk management standards.

Position Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher, plus three years of outdoor program experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A master's degree in recreation, higher education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in student development is required.

  • Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to outdoor programming is required.

  • A current Wilderness First Responder certification is preferred.

  • An American Mountain Guide Association or Climbing Wall Instructor certification is preferred.

  • A working knowledge of software systems such as Fusion and WhenToWork, or similar, is preferred.

  • Independent work on assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director as appropriate

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines

  • Attention to detail and the ability to provide and receive feedback

  • Willingness to lead students and work in a team-based environment

  • Eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts, including collaborations with campus partners to create meaningful student experiences

  • Ability to take initiative and have the flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands

  • Ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees, and participants

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle: A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required.

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
