Purpose of the Job

The SBA Loan Specialist plays a pivotal role in facilitating the acquisition of Small Business Administration (SBA) loans for our clients. The SBA Loan Specialist is responsible for guiding small business owners through the loan application process, assessing eligibility, and ensuring compliance with SBA regulations. The SBA Specialist's expertise will be essential in analyzing financial statements, evaluating creditworthiness, and structuring loan packages to meet the unique needs of each applicant. Job duties of the role will entail both Loan Coordinator activities as well as Business Development Officer (BDO) activities including generating referral sources and loan opportunities from the marketplace.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Advises clients on SBA loan programs, eligibility criteria, and documentation requirements.
  • Conducts thorough financial analysis of applicants, including reviewing tax returns, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Assesses credit risk and recommend appropriate loan structures based on financial profiles and business plans.
  • Prepares loan packages in accordance with SBA guidelines, including completing application forms and compiling supporting documentation.
  • Coordinates with underwriters, processors, and other internal stakeholders to expedite loan approvals and closings.
  • Acts as a liaison between clients and SBA representatives, providing assistance throughout the application and approval process.
  • Stays updated on changes to SBA regulations, policies, and procedures, and ensure compliance in all loan transactions.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with clients, providing ongoing support and guidance to foster long-term partnerships.
  • Collaborates with sales and marketing teams to promote SBA loan products and expand the client base.
  • Contributes to process improvements and best practices to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Assists with other tasks and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, along with excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and colleagues
  • Must have basic knowledge of loan origination software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have a strong understanding of SBA regulations, loan programs, and eligibility requirements
  • Must be proficient in financial analysis, including interpreting financial statements and assessing credit risk
  • Must have a detail-oriented approach with a commitment to accuracy and compliance
  • Must have the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have networking skills for building pipeline of loans
  • Must have a proven track record of meeting or exceeding loan production targets
  • Must have ability to understand all business processes within the credit union
  • Must be resourceful and well organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Must have good reasoning abilities and sound judgment required
  • Must be able to work in a general office environment
  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lending, with a focus on SBA loans preferred
