Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety/Emergency Management/EMS, assists with directing the operation of Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Intercept and Transport Programs including, but not limited to, planning, staffing, scheduling, developing, and evaluating staff, budget planning and maintenance, in-service training, and billing. Provides Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support expertise. Acts as a liaison with the local fire, police, and ambulance services personnel, as well as the Regional Emergency Medical Service Office and other community institutions and agencies involved with Emergency Medical Services.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Responsible for daily operation of the Paramedic Intercept and Transport Programs
  • 2. Responsible for functioning as Paramedic performing required assessment/treatment procedures according to established protocols as defined by the state and medical control.
  • 3. Maintains all necessary paperwork and policies for accreditations, Joint Commission, and State requirements as assigned.
  • 4. Provides real-time accountability, communication and documentation of department, employee, and stakeholder events.
  • 5. Schedules staff to provide adequate staffing in all areas of the departments.
  • 6. Assists with vehicle and equipment procurement and maintenance within budgetary guidelines. Safely operates all equipment according to manufacture specification.
  • 7. Oversees patient care provided by Paramedic Intercept and Transport Programs by collaborating with physicians, staff, and other disciplines to facilitate flow, maintain quality measures, ensure optimal and appropriate utilization of resources
  • 8. Must organize and prioritize work for medical treatment team at emergency scenes, leading other EMS responders in a respectful manner. Communicates and coordinates with dispatchers, fire department personnel, police and other emergency medical team members as needed to ensure that all applicable personnel are prepared to care for and receive the patient(s).
  • 9. Adheres to all safety procedures in the handling of hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens.
  • 10. Actively participates in the planning and implementation of Disaster and Radiation Drills within the hospital and community as directed.
  • 11. Facilitates learning environment for students and new hires. Plans and provides for the orientation and clinical experience for all levels of Emergency Medical Service students and employees.
  • 12. Ensures staff competencies are current and documentation of such is maintained
  • 13. Communicates clearly, concisely, and effectively. Provides accurate and consistent interpretation and application of Human Resource policies.
  • 14. Provides shift supervision by being a role model, mentor, and clinical resource staff.
  • 15. In coordination with Director, delivers teaching, coaching, mentoring and corrective action as needed.
  • 16. In coordination with leadership team participates in the completion of employee performance evaluations within designated timeframes as directed.
  • 17. Conducts quality assurance programs relative to the pre-hospital care of patients brought Delivery Network Facilities
  • 18. Serves as a liaison for EMS related issues with State and Local regulatory agencies, hospital personnel other EMS and Fire agencies, medical equipment suppliers, training centers, citizens, and other agencies or individuals associated with pre-hospital care.
  • 19. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
  • 20. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school graduate or equivalent. Connecticut Paramedic License: Bachelors Preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Position requires experience in pre-hospital care involving 3-5 years paramedic intercept/transport experience; demonstrated interpersonal skills; demonstrated teaching ability; management experience preferred.

LICENSURE

Must maintain certification in ACLS, PALS, and BLS; must have been trained Hazardous Materials at the awareness level. Current Connecticut EMT-Paramedic Licensure. National Registry and Rhode Island License preferred. Possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record with the ability to operate a motor vehicle within the State of Connecticut. National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications in ICS-100 and ICS-700.
