About AAP: The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University (Cornell AAP) is home to nearly 1000 students, 120 faculty, and 65 staff members who come together from around the world to take up some of today's most urgent challenges and advance research, inquiry, and approaches to designing, making, and doing that build a more just and sustainable future. Cornell AAP's departments include Architecture, Art, and Planning, as well as the new multicollege Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate, jointly led by the S.C. The Department of City and Regional Planning (CRP) provides a dynamic, rigorous, and supportive context for addressing the most timely planning questions of our time: from social and environmental justice to equity and access to essential services and infrastructures; from climate change adaptation to land use, zoning, and sustainable transportation and housing. At CRP, the next generation of planners and urbanists hone critical disciplinary skills while broadening their knowledge with a wide selection of courses from across Cornell University, an Ivy League, New York State Land Grant institution with a global footprint. The department of CRP is the home of leading programs in planning, historic preservation planning, and urban and regional studies and is comprised of approximately 20 core faculty, 120 undergraduate students, 110 graduate students, and 4 staff members. Position Function This full time Lecturer/Research Associate position will provide research and teaching support in planning to address social determinants of health (economic development, planning, local government finance, services and infrastructure) with a focus on both qualitative approaches and quantitative modeling techniques. Research responsibilities: Contribute to the design and implementation of research projects on planning, community development and public health. This will include analysis of large scale data sets of medical records data at the individual level. Additional data collection will involve analysis of economic, demographic, health, finance and planning data at the local government and school district level, as well as design and analysis of surveys and focus groups with service providers and local governments to help address the broader social determinants of health. Analysis will include both qualitative analysis and advanced statistical skills in quantitative data analysis, including a range of software packages to collect, visualize, and analyze data. Candidate will be responsible for data management, data visualization, advanced statistical and geographical analysis, as well as supervision of students.Candidate will help write journal articles, present at academic conferences and help write grant proposals. Candidate may conduct their own individual research initiatives as well. Teaching and Student Supervision Responsibilities: Candidate will teach courses in geographic information systems and community development each year. Students will learn how to collect, visualize, and analyze data and engage in academic writing with a focus on planning and community development. Course topics include academic writing, data management, data visualization and geographic analysis. Special attention will be given to applications to research and policy. Candidate will supervise students in class projects, masters research, and in ongoing research activities, and will be responsible for advising 4 to 5 students per year. Requirements
