Job Purpose

The overall purpose of the Housing Navigator / Outreach Specialist is to coordinate and conduct outreach to various agencies, shelters, and community resource centers to find referrals of veterans for the SSVF Program. The incumbent will also develop an ever-evolving landlord/housing list assisting qualified veterans with obtaining and maintaining appropriate housing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social services and or a combination of education and experience in outreach and housing
  • Minimum two years of experience in case management, life skills as well as conducting assessment and counseling services
  • Experience working with Veterans is preferred
  • Experience delivering services to SUD, COD, or homeless populations is also preferred


Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach

  • Network with local shelters and providers serving homeless and at risk of homeless persons to identify veterans
  • Coordinate with partner organizations for weekly, targeted outreach to homeless and at-risk of homelessness veterans including; the DVA, homeless shelters, known homeless camps, Continuum of Care providers, community awareness events, and Homeless Stand-downs
  • Conduct outreach and in-reach activities such as orientation workshops, presentations, and presentations of referral mechanisms at partner providers


Housing


  • Develop and maintain a landlord/housing list of suitable housing that will accept Veterans from the various CVI programs
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with landlords
  • Inspect all units and their facilities before lease signing to ensure that:

    • they comply with HUD/VA Housing Habitability Standards,
    • they meet the standards required by the Life Safety Code,
    • they meet all program requirements
    • the apartment building has locks on all outside entrances and sufficient outdoor lighting
    • All other programmatic requirements
