As a Budget Analyst, you will be at the heart of strategic budgetary planning, supporting the preparation and maintenance of the county's comprehensive budget throughout the fiscal year. You will gain a holistic view of the budget process and collaborate with professionals from over 50 departments, ensuring our fiduciary responsibilities are met for the residents of Maricopa County.

We Require

  • Two years of professional experience in budgeting or financial management

  • A bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field required

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Master's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

  • Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) accreditation

Job Contributions

  • Perform budget administration services, including monthly forecast analysis, position management analysis, and board agenda item review

  • Prepare budget development and consolidation documents, including budget baselines, analysis reports, recommendations, agreements, and research reports

  • Review, analyze, and make recommendations concerning funding requests for new or expanded programs

  • Consult with departments on long-range forecasts of revenues, expenditures, demands for services, and other business issues

  • Monitor, report, and evaluate results of the program and other performance measures

  • Review state and federal legislation for County financial impacts

Working Conditions

  • Exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time

  • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • The position may require occasional travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County or private vehicles used on County business

  • Requires working standard business hours Monday through Friday and may be required to work after hours, on weekends, or holidays as needed during the pressing months of the budget cycle

  • Limited availability for vacation use from January to June
