Minimum Qualifications |
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field and at least two years of full-time work in a similar functional area is preferred. Experience in advising student organizations, budgeting, event management, leading collaborative efforts, and assessment is preferred. |
Position Summary |
The Assistant Director for Student Activities reports to the Director of Engagement, Leadership, and Service and is primarily responsible for the overall management of the student activities portfolio to include the two student activities organizations, late-night and special events, budget and contract oversight, and event planning consultation and content expertise. In addition, the Assistant Director serves as the primary advisor for the University Union Student Programming Board. |

Serve as the primary advisor to the University Union Student Programming Board
- Coordinate and executive individual and collaborative events in conjunction with student leaders.
- Facilitate training, retreats, and workshops for the student leaders on event planning, risk mitigation, operational logistics, team building, etc.
- Manage and negotiate all contracts and agreements with artists, agents, and vendors.
- Oversee management of publicity and marketing for University Union and their respective initiatives and events.

- Provide full oversight and vision for the student activities area within the department.
- Serve as a consultant and content expert on event planning efforts for the department and Student Affairs.
- Create and maintain event planning resources and training materials to be shared broadly with student organizations and departments through the ELS website and other outreach efforts.

Administrative duties and Supervision
- Supervise, hire, on-board, and train the Senior Coordinator for Student Activities and Graduate Assistant for Student Activities.
- Actively participate in and promote the engagement, retention and development of each staff member.
- Manage and provide oversight to budgets totaling over $500,000 in funding to include full compliance with financial procedures.
- Oversee the contract processing for all departmental contracts and agreements.
- Oversee student activity marketing efforts including, but not limited to, organizational social media accounts, monthly calendars, listservs, etc.
- Engage in department, division, and university meetings and activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
