Summary:

Responsibilities:
Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition using aseptic cleaning techniques where necessary. Ensures that examination rooms are properly supplied equipped and operational before each examination. Prepares sterile supply trays required by physician.

Assists with TSPER Patient Verification and Universal Protocol.

Instructs patient regarding the procedure to obtain and effect the desired results and to allay patient fears. Positions and performs aseptic surgical preparation for the ordered procedure.

Assists the radiologist in the diagnosis of diseases as requisitioned by patients* physician. Assists radiologist in carrying out interventional and angiographic procedures.

Responsible to acquire the proper organ system is within the imaging perimeters required for accurate visualization of the procedure required. Arterial cases ie. TACE Splenic Angiogram Renal angiogram and UAE. Venous Cases ie. Port placements PICC placement and Hemodialysis catheters and fistulagrams. Neuro interventional procedures ie. Stroke Cerebral angiogram cerebral coiling*s and stent placements.

Injects contrast media by means of a power injector which automatically applies a constant rate of pressure as ordered by the physician.

Operates both biplane and single plane digital fluoroscopic equipment. Process and label the created digital subtraction runs.

Calls service for equipment problems and logs data when needed.

Archives Images necessary for diagnosis and procedure documentation in PACs

Records and completes records pertinent to procedures performed. Ensures proper charge codes are utilized.

Input all required case information in LifeChart PACs and Hi-IQ.

Adjusts immobilization devices assembles equipment supplies as required. Positions and operates equipment for required length and intensity of exposure. Assists in monitoring the physiologic status of the patient during tests and procedures informs physician and / or nursing staff of pertinent changes in condition.

Understands and practices ALARA principles of radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Two years of formal training in an approved School of radiological technology plus registration through the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists.

Current/valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.

Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Must take advanced registry test in Cardiovascular/Interventional Technology given by the American Registry of radiologic Technologists within three (3) years of placement in Vascular/Interventional section of Diagnostic Imaging.

Must have the interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with the following groups:

Patients in order to allay their fears and anxieties.

Physicians and other staff members in a team working relationship.

Other hospital employees and outsiders to exchange information.

Must have the analytical ability to calculate and select the proper technical factors to provide acceptable radiographs and to simultaneously operate a variety of equipment.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Requires between three to six months experience on the job training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Exposure to blood and various bodily fluids but there is little chance of injury when established safety procedures are followed.

Works in an area where there is little discomfort due to noise dust or heat.

Exposed to radiation but hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.

Must have the physical dexterity and strength to position the patient and operate equipment.
