Drosophila Laboratory Technician - limited

Come join our exceptional Department of Neurobiology, and help lead the advancement of cutting-edge basic science research into explorations of the brain and central nervous system. In this Staff Research Associate 2 role you'll work in the nexus of neuroscience research at UCLA, and will serve as laboratory technician in our lab studying Drosophila.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining Drosophila stocks and genetic crosses.
• Collecting and analyzing sleep data from Drosophila.
• Fly brain dissection, immunostaining, confocal microscopy, and image analysis.
• Assisting in preparing funding proposals and status reports.
• Preparing figures and text for abstracts and research manuscripts.
• Assisting in the designing of experiments.
• Maintaining complete and accurate records.
• Preparing slides and posters for research presentations.
• Performing other administrative duties as assigned.

Note this position is a full-time limited appointment for 5 months and may convert to career.

Salary Range: $28.88 - $46.46 Hourly

Required:

• Experience with Drosophila dissections and immunostaining, and experience in basic molecular biology techniques.
• Skill in confocal microscopy and image analysis.
• Experience preparing media, buffers, and chemical solutions.
• Attitude to work with accuracy, precision, and reliability in performing technical and analytical activities.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of safety measures in handling and disposal of chemical and biohazardous material.
• Strong organizational abilities, ability to prioritize work schedule, and ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
• Good communication skills with the ability to organize and present results in an appropriate format and maintain complete and accurate records.

Strongly Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology or Biochemistry or equivalent.
• Skill in Drosophila maintenance and genetic crosses.
