Departmental Overview

From the high school athlete who tears an ACL to the retiree who needs a knee replacement, Ortho Central is here for each and every one of our patients. Our expert team includes seven orthopedic surgeons, two sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, and workers' compensation specialists.

Ortho Central has four convenient locations in central Oklahoma: Midwest City, Tri City, YFAC and our office in Norman.

Our skilled providers can evaluate and treat a wide range of orthopedic injuries including sports-related fractures, foot and ankle surgery, and hip, knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery.


Job Summary

  • Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, insurance carriers, nurse case managers, attorneys, and the Oklahoma Workers' Compensation Commission to ensure strong communication and standard of care.
  • Works closely with physicians to ensure proper documentation per Oklahoma state guidelines. Reviews physician's reports, medical records, and impairment ratings, and independent medical exams.
  • Schedules independent medical exams, court appointed exams, and work comp evaluations.
  • Obtains authorization from insurance carriers, nurse case manager, and/or attorneys.
  • Answers work comp related calls to assist patients, adjustors, attorneys, other physician's offices and nurse case managers with issues.
  • Communicates with employees, nurse case managers, insurance carriers, medical personnel, patients, physicians, and attorneys.
  • Prepares records for new work comp patients; and is responsible for making sure the chart contains all correspondence, past medical records, and all relevant documents and test results.
  • Provides status reports as requested; provides current information on patients.
  • Handles questions related to work comp correspondence.
  • Documents all work comp related activity; phone calls, forwarding of documents, and conversations with the use of a communication log.
  • Monitors and administers claims, works closely with the billing department to ensure reimbursement per Oklahoma fee schedule.
  • Credentials physicians with Workers' Compensation Court of Existing Claims, Workers' Compensation Commission, and network providers.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited program in Medical Assistant Training or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum one year experience in a clinical or physician office setting, emergency room, and/or a hospital setting that provides direct patient care with preference given to orthopedic clinic experience.
  • Excellent communication skills including phone calls, referrrals and electronic records are also required.

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Licensure/Certification

  • CNA or RMA preferred

Compensation/Benefits

  • $16.72-$27.30/hr depending on previous work experience.
