THE POSITION The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking hardworking Civil, Construction, Environmental, or Structural Engineering students for employment during the summer months for the 2025 Summer Employment Program! DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Construction and Materials Intern, you will have the chance to engage in a range of projects and tasks within the Laboratory Testing Section. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in laboratory testing programs for materials including steel, rebar, reflective materials, paint, concrete, aggregate products, asphalt, cement, and soils. You will be involved in activities such as sample logging, conducting tests in both laboratory and field environments, as well as the documenting of test results, and the storage and disposal of material samples. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025 Work hours will be 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM in all Lab Areas except Chemistry Lab where work hours will be 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Some positions may require travel Compensation is credit based: Less than 90 credits - $20.76 Over 90 credits - $21.64 You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Students who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements: Must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time or part-time basis in a 2- or 4- year post-secondary education program for the fall semester. In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher) Must be at least 18 years of age Special Requirement: Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License. Additional Requirements: You must be able to perform essential job functions.
