Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Description:

Talgo Inc. is seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling various sub-assemblies of rail cars for their final installation, ensuring compliance with FRA rules, procedures, and management guidelines. This role is crucial in maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction, quality, and safety within the specified time, cost, and quality parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform basic operations and simple jobs under supervision, including:
  
  
  
  • Underframe cleaning
  • Assisting with incoming and outgoing testing on train cars
  • Installing platform steps and exterior grab handles
  • General facility and car cleaning
  
  
  
  
• Interpret basic blueprints, schematics, and documentation
• Verify the quality and accuracy of completed tasks by inspecting finished work to ensure it meets required standards and specifications
• Handle simple measuring elements using calipers, measuring tape, and gauges
• Collaborate with team members to provide coaching, training, and mentorship
• Follow established Standard Work Instructions using basic computer skills

Work Environment:

• Typically dirty, with exposure to fine particle dust, grease, and industrial by-products
• Work in various conditions, including confined spaces and at heights up to 20 feet

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of professional mechanical experience (e.g., automotive, motorcycle, aircraft, or heavy equipment)
• Proficient with hand and power tools, and measuring instruments
• Ability to read drawings, schematics, and blueprints
• Understanding of measurements and basic math; proficient with both standard and metric rulers
• Experience with data entry and basic computer skills
• Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking
• Ability to stand for long periods, twist, bend, reach with arms and hands, handle, grasp, and feel with hands
• Ability to work in confined spaces and under rail vehicles, as well as at heights up to 20 feet
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
