CTD Temporary Summer Laboratory Prep Coordinator
CTD Academic Summer Camp at Northwestern University
The Laboratory Prep Coordinators (LPCs) work closely with CTD Instructors, the Supplies Manager, Academic Directors (ADs), and Northwestern University lab managers to provide laboratory setups for CTD students. Lab Prep Coordinator work hours are generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour unpaid break; additional time may be required, and hours may be adjusted depending on scheduled lab and prep times.

Full-time work Monday, May 27 - August 8, 2025
Salary: $21.00 per hour; 37.5 hours maximum
- Current or past enrollment in a college undergraduate or graduate degree program involving laboratory science.
- Current or past lab preparation and management experience; lab science teacher experience highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of lab processes and procedures, and expertise in assigned lab area, with experience in setting up and breaking down labs for others.
- Inventory maintenance and ordering experience.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and should be self-starters, motivated, flexible and adaptable, have a professional demeanor, demonstrate a mature and positive attitude, and serve as role models for students and other staff members.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork.
- Ability to lift and/or maneuver 40 lbs.
- Ability to traverse distances of at least one mile with or without accommodation.
- Learn and implement CTD and Northwestern Policies and Procedures.
- Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code.
- Uphold CTD rules and regulations concerning staff conduct, program procedures, and other responsibilities as set forth in the staff handbook and by administrative staff.
- Uphold administrative policies and NU/outside laboratory procedures that must be implemented in the laboratory.
- Meet with NU/outside lab staff prior to the start of the session and become familiar with Northwestern University/outside lab organization, maintenance and procedures.
- Review all CTD science course syllabi for assigned science strand prior to the start of the sessions. Create, update and confirm laboratory use schedules with each CTD science strand instructor prior to the start of the sessions.
- Review syllabi and lab procedures to determine supplies and materials needed. Communicate needed supplies and materials to the Supply Manager so supplies and materials can be ordered.
- Ensure, confirm, and document the receipt of supply orders based on lab schedules and assignments.
- Prepare, set up, break down and clean laboratories for science courses based on lab schedules and assignments.
- Assist instructor and TA staff during labs when possible, paying particular attention to laboratory safety.
- Communicate regularly during the sessions with instructors and university lab liaisons for laboratory instructions, set-up, and materials.
- Keep up and clean lab areas and equipment, including proper disposal and cleaning of supplies and lab areas.
- Inventory, pack, and store all lab supplies at the conclusion of summer session.
- Provide an overview of Northwestern University laboratory safety training and best practices to ensure staff and students understand safety protocols.
- Act as liaison among Northwestern University, instructors, and CTD staff.
- Assume program-related responsibilities as requested by CTD administrative staff.
