Summary: The WMS Systems IT Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and related infrastructure throughout Wagner Logistics. This role involves providing support for the WMS and hands-on support for warehouse technology infrastructure, ensuring system up time, and leading a team of remote employees. The WMS Systems Manager will work closely with warehouse operations, IT, and vendors to continuously improve processes, resolve issues, and implement new solutions.
This position serves as a member of the Wagner Logistics IT team and shall uphold and comply with the policies, standards, and attitudes adopted by the company, and shall follow the guiding principles of Best Practices, leveraging process improvement and fostering cultural change, where appropriate.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Manage and maintain the Warehouse Management System to ensure seamless warehouse operations.
* Monitor system performance, conduct regular audits, and ensure data integrity.
* Troubleshoot WMS-related issues and coordinate with vendors or IT teams to resolve them promptly.
* Implement system updates, patches, and new features as required.
* Manage the team to set up, test and implement WMS at new sites as needed.
* Direct the activities of the help desk to ensure the IT needs of users are met
* Oversee the support of warehouse hardware, including handheld devices, printers, scanners, and network connectivity.
* Collaborate with Managed Service provider (MSP) to ensure proper configuration and maintenance of RF devices, conveyors, and automated warehouse equipment.
* Collaborate with the (MSP) to ensure optimal warehouse network performance, including Wi-Fi coverage and server stability.
* Analyze current warehouse operations and identify areas for improvement in WMS and infrastructure processes.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement process improvements and new technologies.
* Lead or participate in projects aimed at enhancing warehouse performance, such as automation or system integrations
* Manage a distributed team of remote employees, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
* Foster a collaborative and productive work environment for remote employees by using effective communication tools and strategies.
* Conduct regular team meetings and ensure alignment with overall business goals
* Work closely with third-party vendors to manage system enhancements, service contracts, and technical support.
* Serve as a liaison between warehouse operations, IT, and other departments to align WMS initiatives with business objectives.
* Other duties as assigned
What You Need:
A. Education: Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field. Master's degree preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
B. Experience: 5+ years of experience managing Warehouse Management Systems, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
* Extensive technical knowledge of application development methodologies, integrations, data analytics, infrastructure and/or cybersecurity
* Must be able to define standards and strategic direction to ensure department is able to meet mission and organizational goals
* Strong leadership and motivation skills with the ability to challenge and develop staff to ensure effective deployment of resources and personnel retention.
* Effective Project/Program management (small to large projects)
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
C. Knowledge/Experience/Skills:
* Experience with Synapse WMS or similar WMS.
* Experience in automation projects and implementing new warehouse technologies.
* Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma and/or 5S methodologies.
* Ability to demonstrate competent IT literacy around applications and systems.
* Understand the principles of application systems development and how to use them to analyze, test, implement, maintain and document IT projects.
* Experience querying and working with relational databases (SQL Server).
* Understand the data warehouse and its relationship with transactional data, as well as the importance of data integrity.
* Experience developing technical documentation and training end users.
* Analytical thinking with ability to break down a problem, recognize the root cause of the problem, and identify how technology can resolve the problem.
* Specialist knowledge of technical applications and a good understanding of operating systems, computers, and applications software.
* Ability to independently manage multiple medium/large sized projects or tasks and implement them in a timely manner and within budget.
* Advanced technical knowledge that ensures the level of confidence to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with end users - external and internal.
* Leadership skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
* Availability for occasional travel to attend training, assist with start-ups, etc.
