Position Description

The Anoka County Parks mission is to positively impact the quality of life in Anoka County by providing parks, outdoor recreation, and leisure services for the public. Our mission encompasses the protection of the natural environment, improving the health of citizens, and supporting a strong local economy. The department has an immediate opening for a Manager, Park Services who will perform various duties. Areas of critical responsibilities for this position include providing leadership in ordinance enforcement, guest services, and operations of the campgrounds, gatehouses and reservable facilities in addition to directing all business administration, financial, operational, and management of strategic initiatives within the work unit.

This is a full-time, exempt, on-siteposition. Interviews will take place the week of January 27, 2025 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $70,012 to $84,011 ($33.66 to $40.39 per hour).

  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34: $72,012 to $98,009 ($33.66 to $47.12 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at the Anoka County Field Operations Building, located at 1530 Bunker Lake Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304.

  • Expected work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.Occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call responses to after hour incidents may be required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Manager, Park Services.

  • Oversee comprehensive park operation budgeting, planning, and implementation.

  • Ensuring guests receive excellent customer service at county campgrounds, gatehouses, reserved facilities, and visitor centers.

  • Direct planning and implementation of department initiatives and services, including enforcement of ordinances and customer relations programs.

  • Provide direction for planning and implementation of programs to educate and engage the public regarding natural resources and recreation opportunities.

  • Develop and implement operational strategies for campground, gatehouse, and reserved facilities.

  • Monitor and analyze park usage metrics; ensure visitor counts are reported to Metropolitan Council in accordance with program requirements.

  • Implement a system-wide risk management program and respond to a wide variety of emergency situations such as severe weather, medical and other incidents.

  • Provide direction to park services staff to prioritize workloads, train/mentor team members, and collaborate and coordinate with leaders and teams throughout Anoka County.

  • Coordination with local law enforcement agencies on park ordinance enforcement and public safety.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.

  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on year-for-year basis.

  • Successfully pass driver's license background check.

  • Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience leading a team.

  • Ability to analyze situations and determine the best course of action for the situation.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor county worksites in all weather conditions depending on assignment.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.

  • Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.

  • Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, prolonged walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment.

  • Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.

  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various park equipment depending on assignment.

  • Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
