Summary
|
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance activities at Energy Center Omaha district energy plants. Ensures safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of plant equipment on a 24/7 basis when required. Works well with other Maintenance Technicians daily and Contractors when necessary. This position will be at our Howard St. Plant and California St. Plant.

Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Areas

- Responsible for performing a wide range of operations, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on plant equipment (chillers, boilers, steam turbines, pumps, RO systems, etc).
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety.
- Works to achieve effective and cost-conscious maintenance of thermal plants.
- Works to maintain plant reliability.
- Must be willing to assist other departments (Operations, I&C, and Distribution).
- Perform tasks such as welding, fabricating, repair, and troubleshooting plant equipment and related systems
- Promotes productivity and teamwork between Maintenance, I&C, Engineering, Distribution, and Operations through open communication, timely decision making and high standards.
- Requires interpretation/review of technical manuals, sketches, prints, instructions, manufacturer's data and plant equipment maintenance history; ensures best maintenance practices are incorporated into all maintenance activities.
- Supports and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance.
- Troubleshoots plant operational issues by working with all levels of personnel including operators, mechanics, managers, engineers, etc; devises new and innovative approaches to solve problems.
- Assists in developing written corrective and preventative work orders and schedules for the plant in accordance with plant operational priorities.
- Confers with representatives of equipment manufacturers on matters concerning the servicing, assembly, or maintenance of equipment.
- Analyzes data on actual versus estimated time, equipment, and manpower requirements.
- Recommends improved practices, methods, and procedures to increase efficiency, quality, and reduce equipment downtime.
- At times responsible for field coordination between contractors, consultants, and material suppliers on assigned projects.
- Works for resolution of urgent plant issues; this may at times involve working extended hours and night shift hours and/or weekends.
- Ensures identification and implementation of improved maintenance practices, methods, and procedures to increase efficiency, quality, and reduce equipment downtime.
- Strong advocate for continuous improvement.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Communicates in accordance with company vision and core values.
- Supports station safety, maintenance performance, root cause analysis, condition-based monitoring, proactive maintenance initiatives.
- Maintains historical database/reduction of maintenance backlog and equipment history in Fiix.
- Communicates with vendors and clients to request/receive information.
- Completes necessary tasks to help maintain appropriate inventory; identify, research and correct inventory data discrepancies.
- Adherence and commitment to all Vision, Mission, and Values of the company including a safety-first mentality.

Requirements

Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstration of a strong safety-first culture and attitude

- Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress with poise and safety
- Possess an excellent working knowledge of operations and maintenance for efficient and effective production
- Experience in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook applications
- Experience working with steam turbines preferred
- Ability to develop work plans and maintenance schedules
- Experience working in District Energy
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- An Associate degree in related technical area or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of Five (5) years' experience in plant operations and/or maintenance preferred.
- Completion of formal steam plant operations training, licensure, or certification program is preferred.
- Five (5) years' experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Working Conditions
- Normal plant environment and/or out of doors work environment. Includes working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations
- Requires operation of a motor vehicle, Valid State Driver's License
- Possible extended and non-standard hours during critical issue resolution
- Possible travel to corporate locations and other company plants
- Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, fall protection, respirators, etc.)
- Requires working around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals
- Requires operation of a personal computer
