Job Summary: The Grants Coordinator will research and write grant applications as well as monitor all grants to ensure compliance with funder requirements as well as State, Federal, and County guidelines. This position will seek and secure outside funding sources for Parks initiatives as well as continued cooperation with engaged stakeholders. The Grants Coordinator is responsible of ensuring that Parks is able to continue to achieve its mission to steward a thriving park system that positively impacts every Milwaukee County Parks visitor and provide high-quality services through leveraging additional non-County funding sources.

Job Duties:



  • Oversee the management of grants, coordinate grant application development and budgeting, and ensure compliance with requirements. Coordinate reporting of existing grants. Analyze and report on the impact of grant programs in the park system and County, as applicable. Identify potential funding opportunities based on department needs. Coordinate and execute the development completion and close-out of grant applications including real estate transactions, zoning changes, and contract execution. Maintain knowledge of funded programs, procedures, grant regulations, internal accounting, and software programs to ensure compliance with grant conditions and reporting requirements.
  • Develop grant documents that might be required as part of the annual budget process. Oversee the use of various grant databases for coordinating grant-based initiatives with non-profits, organizations, and other units of government.
  • Serve as the official liaison with other county or municipal department grant project managers. Collaborate with County departments to coordinate processing and management of grants. Respond to inquiries regarding grant compliance and perform periodic audits of historic grant obligations. Maintain records of current and historical grants.
  • Produce and apply for grants. This responsibility requires strong written and verbal communication skills including developing and maintaining a knowledge of Parks services and their applicability to various funding sources. Grant writing involves all aspects of the development of written applications including narrative writing, analytic, and mathematical skills.
  • Participate on special project teams and other duties as assigned.
  • Align grant documentation between data types, including but not limited to contract documents, budget spreadsheets, and GIS maps.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Current resident of the state of Wisconsin.
  • Associate degree in public works, public administration, or closely related field.
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in grant administration, grant management, public sector finance, and/or, compliance or related field.
  • Intermediate experience of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Basic experience with financial accounting software.
  • Experience with GIS preferred.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in closely related field like public works, public service, business administration with no experience.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of fiscal and budget analysis; oral and communication skills; problem solving skills; mathematical skills; personal computer skills; decision making skills; Familiar working with various funding sources such as Federal and/or State funding; proficient in budget management for capital projects; able to be an active team player in the department. Ability to work independently; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with Milwaukee County departments and other organizations. Ability to lift, carry, pull, push up to 15 lbs.
