Starting Salary $ 75,000 - $90,000
This position travel is required 85% - 90% of the time throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.
We are a fast-paced, growing construction company that delivers safety, quality, and on-time work, that specializes in heavy civil construction that includes earthwork, concrete work, steel erection and more. The ideal person will be highly organized, self-motivated, have a working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to assigned projects.

The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Heavy Civil construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a strong leader with excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.


The Project Manager is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and managing onsite construction budget and schedule activities; while providing leadership and expertise to ensure all work complies with project standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Project Planning and Coordination:


    • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, to ensure seamless project execution.


  2. Team Leadership:


    • Lead and motivate project teams, providing clear direction and guidance.
    • Conduct regular team meetings and performance evaluations.


  3. Safety and Compliance:


    • Prioritize safety on the construction site, ensuring all team members adhere to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor compliance with environmental and safety standards.


  4. Budget and Cost Management:


    • Prepare and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
    • Review and approve invoices, change orders, and other financial documentation.


  5. Quality Assurance:


    • Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure work meets or exceeds industry standards.
    • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks.


  6. Risk Management:


    • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Respond promptly to any project-related issues or emergencies.


  7. Communication and Reporting:


    • Establish clear lines of communication with all stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress.
    • Prepare and present comprehensive reports, including project status, financial summaries, and risk assessments.


  8. Contract Management:


    • Review and negotiate contracts, ensuring terms and conditions are favorable for the company.
    • Monitor contract compliance throughout the project.


  9. Resource Allocation:


    • Manage equipment, materials, and labor resources effectively, optimizing productivity and minimizing downtime.


  10. Documentation and Record Keeping:


    • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including permits, drawings, specifications, and correspondence.

Additional Job Functions:


  • Assist with representing the company or project during client and project management meetings to ensure effective communication.
  • Work closely with field construction personnel (Division Manager, Construction Manager, Superintendents, and Foremen) in a collaborative manner.
  • Research, organization, and planning of assigned projects.
  • Ability to work on our different sites in various states.
  • Work closely with leadership to maintain efficient tracking/monitoring of projects.
  • Comply, understand, and support Spencer Construction safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Team player.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by Spencer Construction polices and handbook.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive.


Required Skills and Abilities:


  • Must have at least 3 - 5 years' experience in heavy civil construction engineering, field support, Project Management or similar position
  • Must have an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent job related field experience
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and external clients and/ or contractors
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and construction specific software.
  • Experience working on multiple projects at once and managing time appropriately


Preferred Skills and Abilities:


  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, and an in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units.
  • Experience with managing multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
  • Experience budgeting projects and managing costs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates at professional construction sites, requiring the ability to communicate with verbally others on site, in person and over the telephone, ability to read printed materials, signs and directions, stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions, ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner.

Will be required to work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment and other tools within local, state and federal safety guidelines.
This position operates in a professional field environment. The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
