Scope of leadership role

The Quality Manager will oversee and manage the Quality Management System (QMS) at Wichita Clutch, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role will involve leading quality assurance processes, managing internal and external audits, and working closely with various departments to maintain and enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Management System (QMS):
    • Develop, implement, and maintain the QMS in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
    • Ensure the QMS is effectively documented and communicated across the organization.
  • Audits and Compliance:
    • Plan, conduct, and manage internal and external audits to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015.
    • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions to resolve nonconformities.
    • Liaise with ISO and/or other regulatory agencies.
    • Own and drive periodic quality system management review sessions.
  • Quality Control:
    • Oversee quality control processes and ensure products meet established quality standards.
    • Drive Root Cause Identification, create detailed reports of findings and Implement Effective Corrective Actions.
    • Assist with product testing & certification.
    • Issue certificates of conformance and associated supporting documentation.
    • Manage calibration of inspection and Test Equipment to production timescales.
    • Conduct final inspection of completed assemblies and finished parts to specification prior to delivery.
    • Utilize data-driven problem-solving methods to improve key quality metrics such as internal and external PPM, scrap, first article inspection and customer specification flow down.
    • Ensure procedures and work instructions meet the company's standards agreed with the relevant procedure owners.
  • Customer Quality Satisfaction:
    • Manage customer quality complaints and feedback, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
    • Conduct regular reviews of customer feedback and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement:
    • Work with the Continuous Improvement Specialist to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
    • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for quality issues.
    • Monitor and report on key quality metrics and trends, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Training and Development:
    • Provide training and support to staff on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
    • Drive a culture of quality at the source where all associates assume ownership for the quality of their work, services and products.
    • In partnership with the Plant Manager, create quality policy and annual quality objectives, including monthly measurement and countermeasures.
  • Supplier Quality Management:
    • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure quality standards are met.
    • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to maintain the quality of incoming materials.
  • Document Control:
    • Ensure the accuracy of quality document packages delivered to customers on time.
    • Host witness visits (customers and surveyors).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in quality management, or relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience and proficiency in root cause analysis and formal problem-solving techniques.
  • Good writing/administrative skills, including computer skills (word processing, graphics, spreadsheet, etc.).
  • Proven history of customer satisfaction success both internally and externally.
  • Working knowledge of engineering part drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience working with ISO 9001:2015.
  • Experience in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.
  • Strong bias toward data-driven decision making.
  • Solid financial and operational management experience to support demand/supply pipeline.
Skills & experience requirements:
  • Certification as a Quality Manager (e.g., ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence) preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with clutch and braking systems or related machined products is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 standards and quality management systems.
  • Proven experience in leading audits and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in quality management software and tools.
  • Pro-active with desire to improve business performance.
  • Organized with good attention to detail
  • Sound knowledge of milling, turning and grinding processes.
  • Good IT skills i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, SAP.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a busy environment and working toward and meeting agreed targets.
  • Experience in a customer-facing environment.
