Position Summary |
This is specialized work involving operating, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing chemical water treatment systems for closed and open water
HVAC systems and the maintenance of campus
HVAC cooling towers. Maintains cooling towers by replacing and repairing box louvers, float valves and tower caulking; cleans and paints towers periodically; adjusts water flow in distribution boxes. Performs maintenance on the chemical station by replacing and repairing pumps, pump heads, valves, chemical lines, diaphragms, motor switches, pump wiring, timers and controls. Tests water to maintain correct chemical levels; runs tests on condenser water, tests pH, T.S., inhibitor and algaecide chemicals. Keeps reports on chemical use and results of the daily water tests; maintains log books on times and dates of jobs performed; inventories chemical supplies and machinery parts. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use standard hand tools and equipment common to the mechanical and structural trades.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of: mechanical and electrical building equipment; tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities
- Ability to relate well with others (customers, co-workers, supervisors, etc.)
- Ability to learn and use basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform routine troubleshooting of MEP systems.
- Ability to perform administrative functions related to building systems maintenance (complete forms, record filing, etc.)
