The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Translational Medicine Omni

Department Summary

Translational Medicine (TM) develops and executes innovative biomarker strategies to drive clinical development through all phases of the portfolio, and conduct foundational disease-oriented translational research to maximize our scientific and clinical impact. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented intern to join Genentech's innovative translational research & discovery efforts in TM-OMNI.

The successful candidate will work alongside a scientist to complete a lab-based project and acquire critical knowledge of the core techniques and biological assays required to establish disease-oriented, translational research models to characterize our portfolio molecules and discover new biology that can impact our current and future pipeline.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Establish/compare complex in vitro/ex vivo models of human lung fibrosis.

  • Deliver a preferred model system characterized for disease pathobiology and cell phenotypes that recapitulates human lung fibrosis using assays, including, but not limited to, immunoassays and multi-omics platforms.

  • Evaluate the molecular pathway perturbations of pipeline anti-fibrotic molecules introduced to the model system to inform the clinical biomarker strategies for these molecules.

  • Contribute to the advancement of state-of-the-art experimental approaches and techniques.

  • Process and analyze data, interpreting results in alignment with the overarching scientific objectives.

  • Actively participate in team and departmental meetings, fostering effective collaboration with peers and fellow researchers.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship to co-develop translatable human models of human lung fibrosis disease.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2025.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

  • Final presentations of project work to senior leaders.

  • Lead or participate in intern committees to design and coordinate program events and initiatives.

  • Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities, workshops, and panel discussions.

  • Participate in volunteer projects, social events, and team-building activities.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's degree (i.e. a recent graduate not currently enrolled in a grad program)

  • Must have attained a Master's degree

  • Must be pursuing a PhD

  • Must have attained a PhD

Required majors: Immunology, Cell / Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biological engineering or related disciplines, and have completed lower level courses.

Required Skills:

Detail-oriented and self-directed individuals with hands-on experience in molecular biology (RT-qPCR, immunoassays including ELISA) and cell biology (mammalian cell culture) techniques.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00-$50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
