Experienced Aviation Construction Materials Engineering Technician

S&ME is seeking an individual who has a passion for aviation to join our Construction Services team in Charlotte, North Carolina as an experienced Aviation Construction Materials Engineering Technician and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.

What You Will Do:

As an experienced Aviation Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of airport infrastructure, including runways, hangars, and other facilities. Your responsibilities will include reviewing construction plans, documenting field activities, and ensuring quality standards are met. You will leverage advanced software for accurate reporting and testing and maintain clear communication with all project stakeholders. This position offers opportunities for professional growth through additional certifications, complex testing assignments, and mentoring junior technicians. Your work will significantly impact the community by ensuring the safety and quality of construction projects.



  • Plan Review: Thoroughly examine construction plans and specifications to ensure they align with on-site conditions and project requirements.
  • Field Documentation: Accurately record all field activities, observations, and testing results using advanced information management systems like Metafield.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform quality assurance services in compliance with FAA, DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards to ensure project integrity.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain consistent and transparent communication with management, contractors, and clients to support project success.
  • Material Testing and Inspection: Conduct and oversee testing and inspections of construction materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt to verify compliance with industry standards and project specifications.



Who You Are:



  • You have a High School diploma/GED
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • You have five (5) or more active certifications:

    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)


  • You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You have effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain, maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
