Water Distribution Operator I: Hiring Range (hourly): $23.35- $26.27 Salary Range hourly): $23.35 - $35.03
Water Distribution Operator II: Hiring Range (hourly): $27.74 - $31.21 Salary Range (hourly): $27.74 - $41.62
Water Distribution Operator III: Hiring Range (hourly): $32.96 - $37.08 Salary Range (hourly): $32.96 - $49.44
Water Distribution Operator IV: Hiring Range (hourly): $35.92 - $40.42 Salary Range (hourly): $35.92 - $53.89

Licensure Certification Incentives: Staff who successfully obtain water distribution operator certifications are eligible for the following raises indicated below. If staff are at the top of range for their position, then the equivalent salary increase will be paid as a one-time bonus.
* Water Distribution Operator I: 3%
* Water Distribution Operator II: 4%
* Water Distribution Operator III: 6%
* Water Distribution Operator IV: 8%
Position Summary: Assists with the operation, maintenance, and repair functions of the city's water distribution system consistent with the organization's values and mission statement.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Positions work under the general supervision of the Water Distribution Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:
Water Distribution System Operation and Maintenance
* Assists with installation, operations and maintenance activities on water distribution systems, pump stations, storage tanks, hydroelectric plants and water treatment plants and other system appurtenances as assigned in coordination with the Water Distribution Supervisor. Performs assigned line locates and related activities.
* Operates backhoes, end loaders, mini crane, and skid steer as required.
* Prepares scaled field drawings as assigned on water mains, service lines, water valve locations and other system appurtenances.
* Prepares routine reports on work activities. Updates computer maintenance reports on work activities as assigned.
* Performs routine maintenance work related to water department equipment, vehicles, and facilities. Maintains water department property, including in and around water infrastructure sites, in a neat orderly manner.
Utilities Service
* Assists with the response to water main failure, planned outages, pump station and storage tank operations, and general water distribution projects. May assist with the observation of newly constructed water service lines and water meter installations. May assist in plans and permit review for water distribution infrastructure and projects.

* Water Systems: Knowledge of technical and operational characteristics of water systems, including the operating principles of valves, pumps, motors, storage tanks, pressure zones, pump stations, and various types of electrical and electronic equipment used in water systems.
* Equipment Operation: Knowledge of proper operating procedures for heavy and large equipment, such as backhoes, front end loaders, and skid steers.
* Maintenance: Knowledge of machines, heavy equipment, safety regulations, and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance; able to perform satisfactory maintenance and repairs as necessary.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience in water, construction, or related field.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (Email). Must have a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms.
Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date. Must possess the State of Colorado Class I Certification in Water Distribution Operations or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of start date. Completion of all chemically related hazard training including Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response 40 hour certification, the ability to obtain certificate of completion for confined space entry and trenching and shoring outlined by OSHA, and the ability to obtain CIRSA traffic flagging certification are all required

Preferred Candidate: Colorado Distribution I license or equivalent. Familiarity with line locating
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check and Physical/Drug Test upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and Physical/Drug Test.

Position Type and Work Hours:
* Regular full time, hours may vary with workload.
* Evening/weekend work may be required in addition to or instead of normal hours.
* Special Events: May be requested to work additional hours in support of Utilities Department.
* On-Call: Required to perform on-call duty and must be immediately available for 24-hour alarm response on a rotating schedule. Such activities include but are not limited to water main repair and customer service requests. A non-exempt employee assigned to standby duty shall be compensated for the off-duty assignment at a rate of one-hour regular pay for every weekday duty and two hours regular pay for every weekend duty over and above the normal work week hours.

* Indoors: Industrial water treatment plant and distribution offices.
* Outdoors/Off-Site: Performs site visits to construction sites, attends meetings, and conferences.
