The Opportunity:

The Utilities and Engineering Services (UES) Department within Facilities and Business Operations (FBO) is seeking to hire an Electrical Engineer II. This role serves the University of Central Florida as the subject matter expert for all Facilities and Business Office projects involving electrical systems, including energy generation, power distribution, and electrical component design and troubleshooting. The incumbent will identify and recommend efficiency improvements, provide technical guidance to UES leadership and staff, and facilitate solutions during the design and construction phases of projects. A current PE license is required.

Responsibilities:


  • Conduct technical reviews of electrical designs and specifications for construction and operational projects, ensuring compliance with building codes and UCF Construction Standards.

  • Provide detailed feedback on submittals, addressing errors, concerns, and efficiency recommendations.

  • Lead projects from concept to completion, collaborating with clients to define project requirements and working closely with the Facilities Design and Construction team.

  • Support UCF's FCA program and capital renewal portfolio through detailed assessments of campus electrical equipment and distribution systems.

  • Identify deficiencies, prioritize capital planning needs, and provide data to support leadership's budget forecasts and variance reports. Propose and implement resolutions for identified issues.

  • Act as the primary engineering consultant for UCF facilities, infrastructure, and systems projects.

  • Provide expertise to Facilities Project Managers and leadership on codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment and distribution systems.

  • Use data analytics to summarize and present findings to enhance policies, reporting, and operational improvements.

  • Collaborate with leadership and trades teams to improve campus electrical systems' safety, functionality, and energy efficiency.

  • Evaluate electrical distribution and generation equipment for reliability and performance.

  • Develop scopes of work, permit packages, field inspection reports, and comprehensive engineering analyses.

  • Troubleshoot and support existing electrical distribution and generating systems.

  • Provide analytics-driven recommendations to improve operational excellence and reduce O&M costs.

  • Review and update UCF Construction Standards and prepare project specifications.

  • Perform field visits and inspections, recommending improvements and engaging in design optimizations.

  • Contribute to team goals and UCF's strategic objectives through collaborative problem-solving and engineering innovation.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information. Licensed in a state of the United States as a Professional Engineer. Must be licensed in the state of Florida as a Professional Engineer within one year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering design, construction, or facilities management.

  • Previous experience in higher education, healthcare, or similarly complex facilities environments.

  • Experience with energy generation systems, high-voltage power distribution, and energy management systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage projects from conception through completion.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with leadership, staff, and external contractors.

  • Proven track record of identifying and implementing efficiency improvements in electrical systems.

  • Experience applying data analytics to make informed decisions and optimize system performance.

  • Familiarity with Florida building codes, NEC, NFPA standards, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.

  • Knowledge of LEED certification processes and sustainable energy practices.

  • Strong skills in preparing technical reports, proposals, and compliance documentation.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
