What You Will Do:

  • Essential functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.   • Builds appropriate shipping crates for shipping by road, sea, or air; prepares shipments by assembling, packing, and loading; installs protective devices to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.

  • Enters addresses and shipment details into the computer system and labels all shipments.

  • Determines the method of shipment by examining items to be shipped, destination, route, rate, and time of shipment; works with custom broker freight forwarder.

  • Completes any pertinent customs paperwork for international shipments.

  • Verifies identifying information and quantity and condition of items.

  • Loads and unloads materials to and from designated storage area; stacks or piles materials.

  • Contributes to the department's continuous improvement culture.

  • Operates a forklift or other machinery to complete tasks.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all matters.

  • Other duties as required

Position Details:

  • Monday to Thursday: 6am to 4:45pm - Able to work overtime when needed, typically on Friday.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good oral and written communication skills - Expresses thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing, using good grammar. Listens to understand input, feedback, and concerns. Provides complete information in an open, honest, and straightforward manner. Responds promptly and positively to questions and requests.

  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills - Identifies and resolves problems on time; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem-solving situations

  • Good math skills - Ability to develop and apply mathematical thinking to solve a range of problems in everyday situations. Involves basic arithmetic and numerical concepts and uses measurements and standard tools and formulas to calculate data.

  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work with minimal supervision - Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Plans for additional resources; Sets goals and objectives; Organizes or schedules other people and their tasks; Develops realistic action plans.

  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite - Picks up on technical things quickly; can learn new skills and knowledge is good at learning new industry, company, product, or technical knowledge; does well in technical courses and seminars

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a repetitive basis without the assistance of a lifting device

  • Able to work overtime when needed, typically on Friday

Preferred

  • Knowledge of shipping practices of UPS, FedEx, and local trucking companies.
