The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. Position Summary

The intern's contributions to the DIGITAL will provide an opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML). The project aims to develop and refine algorithms that can analyze, interpret, and help facilitate the automation of portfolio coding to improve efficiency and accuracy in our operations. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, data science, and research methodologies.

The DIGITAL department is seeking an intern who will have the opportunity to:

  • Define and Align Taxonomy with NLP Model.

  • Develop a clear mapping between taxonomy domains and target entities/categories for model training.

  • Identify and annotate a representative dataset of research plans to establish a "gold standard" for model evaluation.

  • Build and Evaluate Initial Model for Coding Research Plans,

  • Train an NLP/ML model to classify and code research plans according to taxonomy domains.

Pay Range and Employment Status:

Interns shall be classified as temporary employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits.

  • Bachelor's hourly pay: $17.50
  • Master's and above hourly pay: $20.00

Required Experience

Ideal candidates will be pursuing their undergraduate or postgraduate education in Business Analytics or Engineering background, Computer Science/Engineering or closely related field, such as applied math or statistics
