General Purpose and Scope of Position:

A Safety Operations Specialist is responsible for evaluating and maintaining a safe working environment by conducting inspections, identifying potential hazards, implementing safety procedures, investigating accidents, providing safety training, and ensuring compliance with local and federal safety regulations, all while advising management on corrective actions to mitigate risks and prevent workplace injuries.

Key Skills and Abilities include:

  • Understands the need to develop solutions to meet objectives

  • Ability to work in and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment

  • Computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel

  • Excellent communication skills with team and external representatives

  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems in manufacturing environments

  • Ability to implement and oversee company policy

  • Technical knowledge: Understanding of occupational safety and health regulations, hazard identification, and safety equipment operation

  • Analytical skills: Ability to investigate incidents, analyze data, and identify root causes.

  • Leadership skills: Ability to influence behavior and promote a positive safety culture.

  • Training and certification: Relevant safety certifications like Certified Safety Professional (CSP) can be beneficial.

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

  • Workplace inspections: Regularly assessing work areas to identify safety hazards, including equipment, machinery, and work practices, to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Accident investigation: Investigating workplace incidents and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventative measures.

  • Safety training: Developing and delivering safety training programs for employees on hazard recognition, proper use of safety equipment, and emergency procedures.

  • Policy development: Creating and updating safety policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Compliance monitoring: Ensuring adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other relevant safety regulations.

  • Reporting and documentation: Maintaining detailed records of safety incidents, inspections, training sessions, and corrective actions taken.

  • Ergonomic assessments: Evaluating workstations and work practices to identify potential ergonomic risks and recommend improvements.

  • Communication and collaboration: Working with management and employees to promote a safety-first culture and address safety concerns.

  • Assist other locations with the ability to travel as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits:

  • In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $61,300 - $81,710/yr. Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, and retirement plan participation, including an employer contribution of up to 7% into your 401(k).
