Since its inception in 1905, the Carnegie Mellon Department of Chemical Engineering has been on the leading edge of research and innovation in chemical engineering. Today, this is more true than ever. With research thrusts across fields such as health and medicine, biofuels, air quality and more, CMU chemical engineering students are paving the way to healthier, cleaner, more efficient future for all.

The Department of Chemical Engineering (CHEG) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for the Niepa research lab. The ideal candidate will assist with several projects in the lab, including synthesizing bimetallic nanoparticles. The candidate will demonstrate experience in numerous techniques, including Macromolecular Research, Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, and Applied Surface Science.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic data analysis in order to product reports. Documents results and processes.
  • May test software prototypes. May interact with research subjects in order to perform job functions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Follows research plans in order to collect, record, and manipulate research data. Maintains accurate and detailed research records and files.
  • Performs library research and field explorations.

Qualifications:

  • MS in Chemical Engineering or related field;
  • Interdisciplinary strength in Bioengineering;
  • A strong research record including academic experience;
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills;
  • Highly motivated and creative, enjoys working in a collaborative research environment.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Additional Information:
