Under primary supervision of the Assistant Director of Advising and Policy (ADAP), provide in-depth, holistic, comprehensive and wide-ranging academic advising and cultural adaptation services for undergraduate students, with special attention given to international students and priority given to first year (freshman and transfer) international students. Serve as expert resource for and provide leadership to departmental academic advisors on a wide variety of policy implementation guidelines; provide advice and guidance to the chairs and members of college faculty governance committees and International First Year Experience program partners including SISS, Entry-Level Writing program (ELWR & UWP), other undergraduate deans' offices, Undergraduate Education, and Student Affairs, including Admissions, OEOES and the Student Community Centers. Collaborate closely with appropriate personnel in SISS and New Student Academic Services in Student Housing to provide essential pre-arrival advising services, including special summer programs for international students. Collaborate on the design and implementation orientation, first year and, welcome programming, with special emphasis on workshops and presentations on such topics as cultural adjustment, classroom culture in the United States, academic expectations, developing peer connections, etc. Ensure ongoing, individual and holistic advising for all international students to develop a strong foundation for retention and academic success through graduation. Play a key role in development and implementation of international-student services and programming in coordination with the Office of Undergraduate Education and International Academic Advisors in other colleges. Interpret and apply complex Academic Senate, College and Campus academic and administrative regulations and policies associated broadly with undergraduate education and advising and in particular as they apply to international students. Make decisions in consultation with appropriate college faculty on course planning and scheduling, academic intervention, schedule adjustments and other matters of similar import for individual international students; collaborate with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and the Director of Advising and Policy (DAP) in office planning and the development of office policies and procedures designed to optimize the delivery of advising and academic support services, such as first-year mandatory quarterly advising; represent the college at public forums and respond on behalf of the college to inquiries or complaints from the general public; evaluate the completion of degree requirements.. Collaborate with campus partners to provide advising services for students attending Summer Start. Key Responsibilities * 65% - Comprehensive Academic Advising and Retention Program Administration Department Overview The Engineering Undergraduate Office (EUO) in the College of Engineering (COE) has overall responsibility for the design, development, and implementation of administrative procedures for the degree-granting programs in COE as specified by the faculty, as well as outreach, recruitment, diversity, retention, and other student-support activities. This includes the design and delivery of academic advising and educational enhancement programs for students; serving as a primary information resource for students, faculty, staff, and the general public; interpreting, analyzing, and implementing a wide variety of Academic Senate regulations and administrative policies in evaluating student petitions, assessing individual academic performance, and progress toward satisfaction of degree requirements; making decisions on academic disqualification from the University and readmission; analyzing and authorizing baccalaureate degree certification; assisting the undergraduate programs with assessment efforts for ABET accreditation and coordinating those efforts; and consulting for and coordinating the operation of the faculty governance system of COE. The EUO monitors the progress and advises students from matriculation through graduation. The unit also creates and supports programs designed to increase persistence and retention among first-generation and women undergraduates and those from traditionally under- represented backgrounds (through its LEADR and AvenueE programs). EUO has primary responsibility for creating strategy and managing implementation of all undergraduate outreach and recruitment activities, as well as student-orientation events. The unit's scope of responsibility is college-wide, extending to the departments administered by the College. POSITION INFORMATION * Salary or Pay Range: $56,000/yr. - $99,400/yr.
