Position Summary

Student
Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all
currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center and
across from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday and is
closed on all UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments (scheduled
and same-day), pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization,
medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel health
clinic and counseling services, as well as health education, prevention, and
promotion.

The
University of New Mexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is seeking
applicants for a Charge (RN) Nurse position. The SHAC
Nursing/Clinical Team consists of RN's and Medical Assistants. The SHAC Medical
Staff consists of MD's, NP's, and PA's. Medical and Nursing care at SHAC
is provided in collaboration with our Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy and other
auxiliary services.

The
person in this position will:

  • Lead, guide, and train RN nursing staff and medical assistants.
  • Provide professional nursing services at UNM Student Health and Counseling (SHAC).
  • Schedule work duties for nursing staff.
  • Coordinate and oversee patient care/nursing triage activities in the clinic.
  • Approve annual and sick leave for nursing staff.
  • Approve timesheets for nursing staff.
  • Conduct nursing staff meetings.
  • Provide direct routine and non-routine patient assessment and treatment to include medication administration, IV starts and management, phlebotomy, wound care, etc.
  • Maintain inventories of medical supplies for the clinic.
  • Provide health education and consultation on health-related issues.
  • The schedule for this
    position will be Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, no weekends or holidays, and no
    on-call.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.


Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in Nursing; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Certification/Licensure
State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multistate privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Additional
qualifications and experience in the following are preferred:

  • Experience in an urgent care or emergency room setting.
  • Experience in an outpatient/ambulatory care clinic.
  • Experience in an immunization clinic.
  • Experience providing immunizations.
  • Experience hiring, scheduling and supervising a diverse team of nursing staff.
  • Experience successfully balancing clinical and management tasks.
  • Experience in student health/working with young adults/adolescents in a primary care setting.
  • Experience providing healthcare to a population with diverse ethnicity and sexual orientations.
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record system.
  • Computer skills: word processing and spreadsheet.
