Our group develops advanced mechanical, materials, and thermo-mechanical technologies at the micro- and nano-scale for future generations of hard disk drives. We invent, design, and develop engineering solutions for future data storage devices.
About the role - you will:
- Work with advanced development and product development teams in the areas of thin film/surface oxidation protection and modeling.
- Develop and conduct thin film thermal and chemical exposure testing and collaborate with engineering teams to create predictive modeling.
- Develop experience in industry statistical analysis and modeling methods to help a team of engineers develop novel thin film design concepts for data storage devices.
- Summarize and communicate results to teams from a diverse set of engineering disciplines.
About you:
- Ability to communicate effectively across diverse engineering teams
- Demonstrated the flexibility to contribute to multi-disciplinary projects.
- Have demonstrated a combination of leadership and strong teamwork skills that you will apply to initiate, execute, and collaborate on technology development projects.
Your experience includes:
- Effective experimental and analysis skills
- Experienced in materials, thin film, nanoscale materials deposition, surface science, oxidation or corrosion.
- Excellent academic background in Materials Science, Surface Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Current student pursuing a Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Surface Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and returning to school in Fall 2025.

The estimated base wage range for this position is $35.00 - $43.00/hr. The individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Seagate offers comprehensive benefits to its eligible Interns, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, and participation in the employee stock purchase plan. Seagate also offers Interns 12 paid holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave. The benefits for this position are based on a 24 to 40-hour-per-week schedule for a full calendar year and may differ depending on work location and tenure with the Company.
