Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

First Citizens Bank is seeking an enthusiastic Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Communications & Reporting Associate to join our corporate Sustainability team. This role is ideal for a motivated individual with a passion for sustainability and strategic development. The Analyst will play a crucial role in contributing to the development and communications of the company's sustainability strategy, providing insights and support for strategic efforts. This position provides written and editorial support to the annual sustainability report. Additionally, this position supports business development efforts and other stakeholder requests inquiring about our sustainability strategy.

Additionally, this individual will contribute to a diverse array of projects within our corporate sustainability strategy and reporting. Key areas include end-to-end ESG reporting & disclosures, climate risk development and implementation, GHG measurement, stakeholder engagement, sustainable finance, and more.

The role will also include support of broader ESG and sustainability corporate initiatives, such as human resources, community engagement, climate & sustainability, and governance. The successful candidate will leverage key skills and knowledge such as relationship building, cross-functional collaboration, project management, ability to influence others, communication, budget planning, and strategic thinking to help integrate sustainability into FCB's corporate strategy.

Our Sustainability team integrates environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into the bank's operations and business strategy to generate economic benefits and long-term value for customers and clients, associates, shareholders, and the communities in which we serve.

Established in 2023, the FCB Sustainability team considers growing stakeholder expectations and addresses regulatory requirements related to ESG practices, and is responsible for reporting, governance, and program development.

The successful candidate will have knowledge in overall sustainability topics and strategy, including ESG reporting & disclosures, sustainable finance, climate risk, and GHG emissions measurement, as well as in philanthropy, community impact, and CRA. The current team members serve as the internal subject matter experts for sustainability across the Bank.


Responsibilities

  • Communication and Presentation Development: Develop high-quality materials for presentations that effectively communicate the company's sustainability initiatives and strategic direction. Work closely with the corporate Sustainability leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure messaging is clear, compelling, and aligned with organizational objectives. Exhibit strong presentation skills to support communication efforts to various stakeholders.
  • Sustainability Reporting Support: Assist the end-to-end sustainability reporting and disclosure processes through project management, writing, internal stakeholder engagement, collecting and monitoring data, and supporting compliance with reporting requirements and disclosure guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Business Development Support: Support and assist with responding to inquiries to investors, ESG rating companies, financial institutions, and other stakeholder requests. Manage and support responses to internal and external inquiries, including investors, vendors, current and prospective clients (in the form of RFPs and DDQs).
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with various departments to ensure seamless execution of sustainability projects and facilitate effective communication across teams.
  • Project and Meeting Coordination: Help coordinate and lead project meetings, manage tasks and milestones, and ensure effective file management and organization. Assists in the strategic development, execution, and management of projects. Maximizes available resources while minimizing risk. Ensures high quality results by employing best practices, engaging appropriate expertise, and suggesting efficiency improvements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience in Internal Communications and Professional Writing OR High School Diploma or GED and 6 years of experience in Internal Communications and Professional Writing

Preferred Area of Study: Sustainability, Communications, Journalism, or English

Expertise in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Understanding of corporate communications

Preferred Skills:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in business, environmental science, communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience in sustainability, corporate strategy, communications, or a related area.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging and informative presentations and reports.
  • Platform Knowledge: Familiarity with ESG data management and carbon accounting platforms is a plus.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to contribute to the development and implementation of sustainability strategies.
  • Project Coordination:Experience coordinating projects and working cross-functionally, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint and Excel) and familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks is a plus.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the capability to approach challenges with innovative and rational solutions.

If hired in NY, WA or AZ, the base pay for this position is generally between $71,025 and $123,110. If hired in CA, the base pay for this position is generally between $77,475 and $134,290. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
