Summary Join our team as a Lab Analyst I or II, where you will play a key role in analyzing samples to determine chemical composition, adhering to National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC/TNI) or ISO 17025 standards and EPA regulations. This dynamic role involves collaboration across multiple departments in the same laboratory. What You'll Do (Essential Functions)
- Sample Analysis: Perform sample preparation, chemical analysis, and quantification of chemicals in accordance with EPA methods including 5, 18, 29, 202, 308, 323, NCASI 98.01, and fuel analysis.
- Equipment Operation: Utilize advanced laboratory equipment such as Gas Chromatography (GC - FID, NPD, TCD, FPD), ICP, ICP-MS, CVAAS, HPLC, GC-MS, UV-VIS analyses, FTIR (gas-phase), balances, ovens, and more.
- Data Documentation: Maintain detailed records including laboratory notebooks, software data, standard preparations, and equipment logs.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine and in-depth maintenance, including troubleshooting and electronic board replacement for laboratory equipment.
- Accreditation Support: Perform tasks required to maintain laboratory accreditation, such as running and reporting audit samples, completing MDL studies bi-annually, and updating documentation (e.g., SOPs, DOC forms).
- Quality Control: Perform and document standardizations, calibrations, and performance verifications daily.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure proper sample custody, control, and hazardous waste disposal in compliance with safety protocols.
- Additional Duties: Assist with editing and reviewing SOPs, guidance documents, and other tasks as assigned.
What We're Looking For (Qualifications) Education
- Analyst I: Some college coursework or an associate degree in a science-related field (Bachelor's preferred).
- Analyst II: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field is required.
Experience
- Analyst I: Entry-level; no prior lab experience required.
- Analyst II: 1-3+ years in a laboratory setting with gas chromatography or other analytical instrument experience preferred.
- Experience with hazardous chemicals and sample preparation methods is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of chemistry principles, laboratory operations, and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Leadership and team-training capabilities (preferred for Analyst II).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Environment: Work is primarily conducted in a laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals and lab equipment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Regularly sits for extended periods and uses hands for equipment operations.
- Occasionally lifts and carries up to 30 lbs.
- Frequent repetitive motions, eye/hand coordination, and manual dexterity required.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
Pay Range
- Lab Analyst I: $20.00 - $23.00/hour (based on qualifications and experience).
- Lab Analyst II: $23.00 - $25.00/hour (based on qualifications and experience).
