One (1) Part-time grant-funded position. Working 48 weeks a year. Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant and is funded through June 30, 2026.

Student Advocate (CNC/Uniquely Abled Academy Programs) provides holistic student support for UAA students. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: student support, retention and case management of students with autism, in-class involvement and support, and maintaining student records and ensuring confidentiality.

UAA is a collaboration among MATC CNC M achine T echnology educators, specialists in education for individuals with autism, representatives from state and local social service agencies, and nonprofit and for-profit organizations. This program is dedicated to properly training and supporting qualified students within the manufacturing industry. UAA staff and collaborators work closely together to provide on-going support and career education for UAA students.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform holistic student support via in-class involvement and case management. The UAA Program Specialist/Case Manager will assist in developing a plan of individual service for each student including goals and progress evaluations. This role will work closely with UAA instructors, students, and staff to address issues or barriers in a timely manner.
  • Report to the Uniquely Abled Academy (UAA) Coordinator. The UAA Coordinator may task this role with facilitation of job readiness and interview success workshop facilitation or co-facilitation, as needed. This role will champion soft skills training with UAA students and utilize available resources to promote self advocacy with students in the UAA program.
  • Assist students who do not successfully complete UAA to help identify alternate career and educational training opportunities; collaborating and referring to the assigned UAA career coach when necessary.
  • Keep abreast of community resources and advocate on students' behalf for additional services if needed.
  • Collaborate with MATC Student Accommodations to ensure approved student accommodations are delivered and honored. This role will also participate in program planning with UAA instructors when requested.
  • Maintain complete records for students in compliance with all MATC, WTCS and state standards.
  • Utilize MATC systems to document UAA student records. Records shall include but are not limited to: case notes and student individual risk assessment forms.
  • In collaboration with the UAA Program Coordinator and MATC Instructors, this role will assist in evaluating students' career readiness.
  • Collects cohort data and present data to UAA Coordinator, Student Accommodations, MATC UAA involved faculty, and any other UAA stakeholders across campus.
  • Collaborate with the UAA Coordinator on oversight of UAA students on industry tours, employer site visits, etc.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in psychology, vocational rehabilitation, counseling, social work, special education, or related field.

Required Experience: 2 years of social work/counseling/vocational rehabilitation/outreach and/or disability services program experience

  • Experience in conducting intake assessments, progress reports, individualized success plans for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience using person-centered and self-directed approaches to support students in a program.
  • Experience working closely with students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Experience: 2 of years experience working specifically with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Experience working within a grant-funded program

Specialty Skills:2 years of experience.

  • Knowledge of vocational training and job placement.
  • Strong marketing and PR Skills.

Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the CareerHub and is available to start immediately.

Hours: Up to 19 hours weekly, in-person, primarily based out of the Downtown Campus. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday - Friday. Hours vary based on departmental needs. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary: Salary is determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity. Salary determination will be only based on years of credited experience that is listed on the job application, please include complete work history. This is a grant-funded position. Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant. This position is funded through June 30, 2026.
