Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Student Health Service is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and is charged with the responsibility of providing primary health care for the student body of East Carolina University. The primary care encompasses delivery of acute medical care, preventative medical care, health education, and mental health care; provision of laboratory and pharmaceutical services, administrative support services, medical records, radiology, and the education of
ECU School of Medicine residents are included in our array of services. The Student Health Service department also provides advisory and educational assistance to other university departments, i.e. Sports Medicine, Intramural Recreational Services, Health Education, and other departments. The Student Health Service is mandated by the University and the State of North Carolina to deliver "State of the Art" medical care, economically to all fee-paying students through a predetermined budget. The diverse medical needs of the
ECU student body require that the Student Health Service be a multi-functional and constantly changed department. |
Job Duties |
This position performs procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics, and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid physicians. The Sonographer will maintain technical skills needed to perform routine ultrasound procedures. In addition, the Sonographer maintains department supplies and equipment and will participate in quality control of the ultrasound department. Responsibilities include knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, proper patient positioning, imaging, film developing for interpretations, and applicants must assist physicians as needed. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Associate degree in medical sonography, cardio/vascular sonography, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licenses. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
The position requires completion of an accredited Ultrasonography Program and must be eligible or possess a current
RDMS registry or achieve registry in ultrasound within the first year of employment. The successful candidate must also possess a current American Heart Association (
AHA)
BLS Healthcare Provider Status. The position also requires at least three months of ultrasound work experience and must work up to 8 hours per week, with flexible scheduling during
SHS business hours. |
