The Digital Product Experience (DPX) Department at ACS drives innovation in digital channels to enhance communication and collaboration within the chemistry community. Its mission is to develop and refine powerful online platforms that advance the chemical enterprise, with a focus on the quality and effectiveness of ACS's digital properties, including ACS.org. DPX oversees digital product development and customer experience strategy, covering areas such as design, application development, user research, experience and content strategy, and web operations. By collaborating with stakeholders, DPX ensures a user-centered, high-quality digital experience. The department is committed to creating and enhancing digital products that meet the evolving needs of members and industry standards.

Position Summary

User Experience Researcher Intern will be a crucial part of our user experience design and development process, helping us gain deep insights into user behaviors, needs, and preferences. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including content strategists, visual designers, web developers, web analysts and program managers, to conduct user research studies, usability tests and accessibility audits and reviews. Your research findings
will play a pivotal role in shaping the usability and accessibility of our digital products to ensure they meet our users' needs and help them achieve their goals on the acs.org website.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Help plan and execute user research projects and initiatives and employ a mix of generative and evaluative, qualitative and quantitative research methods to generate insights that fuel ideation and innovation and evaluate digital solutions.

2) Work closely with content and design teams to identify research needs and develop the appropriate research methods, including moderated and unmoderated remote interviews, usability tests, diary studies, empathy mapping, discovery interviews, card sorting, tree testing, surveys, contextual inquiry, kano analysis, etc.

3) Help choose and implement the most appropriate research methods and effectively manage and prioritize research plans to identify research objectives for various digital projects and products.

4) Help develop user personas, journey maps, user flows, service blueprints and other user-centered design artifacts
and research frameworks to guide web content and digital app design decisions.

5) Conduct thorough analyses of research data, synthesize results into cohesive narratives, extract actionable insights, and communicate and present findings effectively to stakeholders across the organization in compelling ways.

6)Collaborate with content strategists and designers to translate research insights into information architecture, navigation, wireframes, prototypes, and interactive mockups that inform content & design solutions.

7) Document research insights and organize, create and manage a user research repository that can be tagged, filtered and shared throughout the organization.

Education Requirements:

The Ideal candidate will be a rising college junior, senior, recent graduate or pursuing a Masters/ PHD in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Information Science, Interaction Design, Applied Research or a related technical UX discipline; advanced degree preferred with a strong emphasis on research techniques and understanding humans / designing technology to meet their needs

Pay Transparency: This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. The following are the intended hourly rates for this part time/nonexempt role: Rising Junior-$23.00; Rising Senior-$24.00; Current Grad/PhD Student- $27.00.

Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of ACS. ACS reserves the right to amend or modify its employment benefits and compensation structure at any time.

*This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, two days per week. Schedule flexibility may be required for this role to support in-office activities. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location of their choice.
